Mit neuem Herz /// With a New Heart

Eine Doppelhaushälfte in Liebefeld bei Bern war zu eng und zu verkastelt. Der Weg in die Küche war eine beschwerliche Sache: Nicht weniger als drei Türen waren auf engstem Raum zu passieren. Wir bauten das Erdgeschoss um, liessen fast alle Wände entfernen und pflanzten danach ein neues Herz ein. Dieses, organisch geformt und dunkelrot gestrichen, nimmt Kochinsel, Kamin und Separat-WC auf und lässt - zusammen mit dem neuen Panoramafenster - das kleine Haus spürbar grosszügiger wirken.

A duplex in the vicinity of Bern was too cramped and full of nooks and crannies. The way to the kitchen was already an arduous thing: No less than three doors were to be passed in the tightest of spaces. We remodelled the ground floor and had almost all of the interior walls removed. Then we implanted a new heart which, organically shaped and painted in deep red, contains a cooking island, a fireplace, and a separate bathroom. Along with the new panoramic window, it gives a palpable air of spaciousness to the small house.
